Class Descriptions

Mixed Ages - 10 Week Session

Mixed Ages (M/A) is our essential Music Together® class is for children birth to 5 years.  A child can attend our M/A class through all nine song collections. This class follows the recommendations of child development researchers - grouping together children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style, community learning. Younger children can enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children, not quite ready for formal instruction, but old enough to participate in class completely independently, can build confidence and learn by leading the younger ones.  Adults are happy because several children in a family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers - parents, grandparents, nanny - can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this community friendly, family music experience. Materials include a professionally recorded CD as well as access to the music through Music Together's Family Music Zone®.  Families also receive a beautifully illustrated songbook.  Families enrolling with us for the first time receive a booklet "Music and Your Child."

Canta y Baila Conmigo® - 8 classes

Canta y Baila Conmigo® creates a playful, interactive atmosphere where lanuage-learning is naturally and organically integrated into the music experience.  CyBC appeals to a wide variety of families, from native and heritage Spanish speakers to brand new Spanish-learners.  It is different from other early childhood lanugage offerings in that, rather than "teaching" Spanish vocabulary through songs, "CyBC teaches the "Spanish language through music."  Because of the quality of the music experience, families come for the language and stay for the music.

Each semester features a collection of carefully selected folk classics, familiar children's songs, and new adaptations of traditional songs and rhymes.  The repertoire authentically represents a wide varity of Spanish speaking regions and cultures, including Andea, Mexican, Afro-Hispano, Caribbean, Castillian, Argentine and more.  Along with the take home CD, families receive a songbook containing Spanish lyrics, sheet music, cultural notes, and an English Language Supplement for those who are learning Spanish.  CyBC features three music collections that are separate and unique from the nine Music Together song collections, and three more that are being created.

Canta y Baila Conmigo® is a Spanish language and culture program with dual, complementary goals of music development and Spanish acquisition. It is both a music class in Spanish and a family language immersion experience.  CyBC introduces the Spanish language through the musical traditions of Spanish-speaking countries.
